“The being, which may not be a series of psychic events, can not be mild. It remains temporal, not by any chance of the human constitution, but because of an inner necessity. ” MERLEAU, Ponty, Maurice. Phenomenology of perception.

“Time Only Has Space” by Laura Carvalho is a 2014 triptych that explores the relationship between time and space through the interplay of colors, textures, mediums and forms. Sowing physical fragments of particular memories, such as  drawings, paintings, writings and images. The piece echoes the concept of patchwork, where the remnants of moments and memories are  sowed together to form a cohesive whole.

A conceptual map, ordered by limits of affectivity.

Embodying Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenological understanding of temporality. The piece explores the fluid and interwoven nature of time and space, challenging linear perceptions and revealing their intrinsic interconnectedness. suggesting that our experiences are not linear but rather a collection of interconnected “patches” that create the fabric of our existence.
